ประวัติ ความเป็นมา วัดพระธาตุศรีดอนคำ (History of Wat Phra That Si Don Kham.) 

วัดพระธาตุศรีดอนคำ  หรือวัดพระธาตุห้วยอ้อ(Wat Phra That Si Don Kham. Or Wat Phra That Huai Or.)

สถานที่ตั้ง   หมู่7  ต.ห้วยอ้อ  อ.ลอง  จ.แพร่่  (Location.  Moo 7, Tambon Huai Or  Long District, Phrae, Thailand.)

วัดพระธาตุศรีดอนคำหรือที่ชาวบ้านเรียกว่า วัดห้วยอ้อ อยู่เลยที่ว่าการอำเภอลองไปเล็กน้อย ห่างจากตัวเมืองแพร่ 45กิโลเมตรตามทางหลวงหมายเลข 1023 เป็นพระธาตุเก่าแก่ขนาดใหญ่ ภายในบรรจุ พระบรมสารีริกธาตุของพระพุทธเจ้า สร้างขึ้นเมื่อประมาณ พ.ศ. 1078 คราวพระนางจามเทวีเสด็จ จากเมืองละโว้ไปเมืองหริภุญชัย   พระธาตุแห่งนี้ได้รับการบูรณะหลายครั้ง ปัจจุบัน มีฐานเป็นปูน ส่วนบนประดับด้วยแผ่นโลหะสีทอง  นอกจากนี้ ยังเป็นแหล่งรวบรวมตำนานพระพุทธรูป และมีพระพุทธรูปศิลปะพม่า ที่ทำมาจากไม้ เรียกว่า    พระเจ้าพร้าโต้ตลอดจนคัมภีร์ต่างๆซึ่งเก็บไว้ในหอไตรของวัด

ประวัติพระเจ้าพร้าโต้  (History of God Auto knife.)

เมืองลอง ตามตำนานกล่าวว่า แบ่งออกเป็น 3 ยุค ด้วยกัน คือ

ในยุคที่ 2 มีเรื่องเล่าขานการสร้างพระพุทธรูปคู่บ้านคู่เมือง เกิดขึ้นด้วยฝีมือช่างศิลปะเชียงแสน คือการสร้างพระเจ้าพระเจ้าพร้าโต้  ซึ่งถือว่าเป็นพระพุทธรูปที่แปลกและสวยงามมาก

จากหลักฐานทางประวัติศาสตร์ของเมืองลองที่มีการสร้าง “วัดศรีดอนคำ” มีพระยานครลำปางและพระยานครแพร่ช่วยกันสร้าง มีการขออนุญาตโบกปูนและสร้างกุฏิให้พระเจ้ามหาเถรเจ้า สุทธนะเป็นพระประธาน โดยได้สร้างพระวิหารขึ้นในปี พ.ศ.2236 พร้อมพระอุโบสถขนาดเล็กกว้าง 4 วา ยาว 8 วา โดยลาดพื้นและผูกพัทธสีมา มีการจัดทำพระพุทธรูปองค์หนึ่งเรียกว่า พระเจ้าพร้าโต้ โดยสร้างจากไม้จันทน์ทั้งต้น และส่วนที่มีขนาดเล็กได้สร้างพระขนาดเล็กอีก 4 องค์ รวมทั้งสิ้น 5 องค์
